CONCERNED?

http://www.supportoursmallshops.info

Yes I am. There are many empty shops in Surbiton, particularly in the Ewell Road.

Sainsbury opened a new convenience store in this territory in November2014. It is the second Sainsbury convenience store in the Ewell Road, even though there are already five small indepently owned off-licences and convenience stores in the neighbourhood of the new Surbiton Health Centre.

The old Budgens closed in the summer of 2014 and the space for a newly built restaurant facility next to HSL (366 Ewell Road) remains empty...

ONLY TIME WILL TELL whether competition will improve service and increase footfall in the Ewell Road, including a Londis Franchise. There is a real danger that it will increase the number of shop closures, because the Giant retailers are, I suspect, guilty of monopolistic ability to lower prices and unfair competition.

NEW ALDI ON THE A240 should have been sufficient. Is there too much competition? Is it worth the time and effort to refer this matter to the Office of Fair Trading for investigation?
